The Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center combines the joys of camping with a Christian faith community. This retreat in the mountains is just a one hour drive from Lexington and offers a spiritual experience for individuals and groups. It is a great place for the active too and there are facilities for volleyball, soccer and basketball. Other activities include hayrides, folk dancing, hiking, creek walks and a ropes course. The accommodation consists of modern cottages, rustic cabins and spaces for tents and RVs. The site also has a dining hall, swimming pool, chapel, craft hut, education barn and campfire rings. This is one of the more unusual Kentucky campgrounds and well worth a visit.
The Beech Bend campground is unusual too as it offers everything one would expect from Kentucky campgrounds but it is close to a lively amusement park and drag racetrack. There are more than 500 sites for tents and RVs, half of which have full hook ups. It is situated in a lovely wooded setting and the Barren River is nearby. Fishing is allowed on the river and there are bike trails on the campground. Campfires are permitted and campers can bring pets but must keep them leashed. The site is open every day of the year and there are bath houses, a meeting room, communal dining areas and a laundry room. RVs are also available for rent, sleeping six and with a fully equipped kitchen, showers and tub.
Camp Nelson RV Park has 60 RV hook ups, a swimming pool, shower house, playground, camp shop and laundromat. It’s one of the most scenic Kentucky campgrounds, overlooking the Kentucky River. There is a boat ramp and fishing and canoeing is permitted. Hikers can enjoy the trails and there are facilities for basketball and volleyball. Clay County Campground is situated in the Daniel Boone National Forest and has hook ups and telephone and cable TV connections. Free musical concerts are organized every week and there are walking trails, golf facilities and fishing at several nearby lakes. A camp store sells provisions and there are organized hayrides. The beautiful mountain location makes this an excellent choice of Kentucky campgrounds.
